I think data collection is a big deal here. Of course, the truth is, (and I'm sure you've seen this yourself) that the real question is not only whether companies collect data but whether they effectively use the data they've collected to build those relationships. It seems counter intuitive that a company would collect data and then not use it, but I've been told it happens a lot.
