In many cases, the Entrepreneur finds it difficult to know who they should target as a potential buyer for their business. At first glance, any buyer with a checkbook may be attractive. In practice finding the right buyer when selling a business is both an art and a science.

Similar to selling commercial real estate, knowing who the buyers are and what motivates them is beneficial. Likewise, when determining the asking price for a business, it makes good sense to understand the nuances associated with the three types of business buyers. Doing so will improve the entrepreneur’s likelihood he will receive the maximum net cash from the sale.

Hi Holly,

I always feel like there should be a LOT more information out there on selling businesses. Because I think many business owners and those starting a business often have little or no clue about planning for an exit strategy. My question is, what do you think is the biggest misconception out there about selling a business? I'd be thrilled for you to share your thoughts in the comment section on the BizSugar community so that all our members could get the benefit of your thoughts on this.
