I’ve seen first hand time and time again the value of people who enjoy working for us and understand how we do what we do and why we do it the way we do it. They ‘get it’ and there are a variety of reasons for that.

Excellent tips Mark. Happy employees lead to happy customers, which lead to better business. I particularly like #2 and #3. Showing them true appreciation will make them give their best. Also, don't underestimate the value of small rewards. Giving them paychecks and bonus at the year end is good, but giving them small rewards - monetary or non-monetary - along the way will help boost their motivation.
