Rather than write a post this week...I wanted to instigate a discussion. So here goes: I think most of us would agree social media is changing the way we communicate and even changing the way we do business...

I've probably used LinkedIn longer than any of the prevalent social media out there today and I'm sure others who use it regularly would agree the flavor has changed. Activity used to be within special groups but now the update section is used to keep you top of mind with others in your network. Needless to say this can be used to negative effect as well...when the wrong people get involved.

Thanks for the comment Shawn. I agree that much like a really good car...LinkedIn is only as good as it's driver and it's features and extras are only as good as the driver's knowledge and expertise on how to use them.

It's a thought provoking post. Niall has a great point, too - from my short time at this I'd guess that a huge % of the problem w/Social Media is people who don't yet know what they're doing, that they're doing it wrong.

Thanks for the comment. The most dangerous social media users are the ones who think they know what they are doing, but don't. They either then believe social media does not work and/or annoy others (with aggressive sales pitches etc)online.

I think this is a very interesting observation! The strength of LinkedIn up to now is that it has been business focused & acts in many respects as the gateway social media for business people. The reality now however is that both Twitter and lately Facebook are becoming very serious tools for business people, the big concern I would have for LinkedIn is that as regards the user's behavior over there or in this case the behavior of recruiters, from my experience a great many LinkedIn users use it badly (don't know how to use it) and I think recruiters are some of the worst offenders.

Good point. LK need to see how Facebook are attracting other business users and then integrate the best parts.
