Isn't the big change that leaders are finally taking over from managers? So far the majority of so called leaders in the world have been managers.

Needless to say the managers failed, and are still failing, at reaching the goals of leadership:-) But what Bill George says applies to the West. All parts of the developing world are not there yet:-)

Leadership has always been about tapping into people's skills and capabilities, so that has not changed. People are now more empowered and more connected, so leadership has to tap into that aspect of people's capabilities. So yes, big changes, but fundamentally, the same basic goals.
