That being said, I am the type of person that thrived on a very regimented, order-driven system. It was what got me up and going.
For some strange reason, having superiors barking orders in my ears and yelling commands with bright red faces and steam coming out of their ears actually became a source of comfort fot me.
I guess though that that approach is not conducive to the business world, though, like many others, I have had some bosses who tried out that approach.
I agree with you that a more genteel approach can do wonders for pride, committment and productivity.

Order-barker or genteel-man/woman; either one can be a great boss. I personally don't have the high energy/extroversion it takes to be a dominant commander, so most of the time I'm stuck with the genteel approach.
