The Trump campaign was a brilliant work in marketing. Despite enormous odds and negative press, he still prevailed. What can we, as marketing professionals, learn from this?

Troy: What do you think we can learn from the third alternative (Johnson's / Weld's campaign)? At the end, they got 3% of the votes.

That is probably an entirely different blog post. Most spent significantly less money, got much less media exposure regardless of what they said, except some negative for Johnson and some curiosity for McMullin.

None of them reached the magic tipping point beyond the early adopter segment, at least of those who voted. Overall, I would see theirs as a failed marketing campaign, but the reasons are complex.

I would point to the same initial failure of many politicians and marketers alike: they start with who they are instead of their "why" for running.
