This article focused more on marketing services that drive traffic to your blog or site, whereas affiliate links are meant to monetize that traffic.

Affiliate linking is a viable way to monetize your content if it is of sufficient quality and relevance to the products being sold. Of course, you then need to get your content in front of eyeballs, which means you're back to marketing :)

How did you manage to cut the list down to five providers?! I've been hearing and reading about affiliates as a way of online promotion. You included it here in your list but no related company. What are your thoughts on affiliate companies, like Clickbank?
