I am a big proponent of networking and referrals for professionals, from generating referrals from your clients and contacts, to getting involved in formal and organized networking groups.

Tibor,

I agree with the two way street attitude. I recently joined a BNI chapter in Gothenburg, Sweden. Before I could have the opportunity to do my presentation (10 minutes), I had to attend a membership success training event.

Have you read John Jantsch's book, The Referral Engine?

I agree with Shawn and I would add if you do not want to fully particpate in a 2 way street then why bother. What we can sometimes forget is that we can learn from many people, so why pass up an opportunity as you never know where it can lead.
