Hi Harry,

I think this is a great idea and have seen this done by many diverse local businesses. I guess my question is, as in the case of social media, how do you measure ROI? Certainly, you can determine whether sales picked up that day. But how about less direct impacts? What about the long term future customer who first discovered you because of this event? How do you know whether the cost of the event is justified? How do we measure results?

Heather - Excellent point. As with many other marketing activities ROI measurement is the challenge that this activity needs to address. As you correctly stated indirect impact is somewhat difficult to measure. One way to do it is to prepare a survey or questionnaire that asks customers how they heard about your business. I have seen this being used by several businesses.
