It's certainly related, and for retailers being able to transition smoothly from halloween to holiday marketing can help them to win as many sales as possible during the finite window of the holidays. Given it's only a couple month buffer, the first impression created around halloween can still be fresh come gift buying.

Halloween this year is on a Friday, so it's sure to bring a lot of people out to celebrate. One idea that works pretty well is including a coupon for a later sale with a treat for your customers, giving them incentive to come back to you for their later holiday shopping.
