It's strange, because consistently updating your content has always been a best practice. People just like and enjoy fresh, new content more. Now, Google appears to be rewarding people for running a blog or updating their content on a regular basis. You're right Amabaie, the content does however, need to be meaningful, and should be integrated with a variety of social tools.

I agree with Amabaie. And it's not just about refreshing content, but also adding content. Some peopl get mixed up between the two and keep changing their existing content.

For some time now, I have been recommending that any website in an even moderately competitive niche should have a blog. Caffeine gives one more reason. The caffeine process itself is about indexing, not ranking, so Caffeine does not necessarily mean that having regularly updated content is more important for rankings now than it was a few weeks ago. But it does show where Google's attention is focused, and therefore it is a fairly safe bet to assume that freshness of content will also play a larger role in a domain's overall credibility. However, it's not enough to just have regularly refreshed content; that content needs to be seen as worhtwhile. Signals such as tweets and Facebook likes, such as social bookmarking and such as comments on the posts are also important.
