Out of three ideas I consider word of mouth to be the best avenue to spread your ideas, not only because it doesn't cost much, but also because it is more authentic.

I agree with you on word of mouth. My concern is that small businesses think word of mouth will happen organically. Word of Mouth should be strategic targeting the right audience with the right message. If that happens word will spread to the right prospective customers.
