I use gmail and was aware of some of the features but certainly never heard of Streak. I love when someone takes the time to teach others about their little finds. I'll certainly be checking that out.

The tips on this post should help. If you set up your Gmail to show unread messages first, it will make it a little easier.
If you get a really large number of emails, then you can start marking the ones that matter as "important" and pretty soon Gmail will get the hang of which ones really matter and mark them for you. This way you can save time and only go through and read the important ones.
