A market feasibility study is the all-important first step. After all, if the market is dying or won't allow your new venture to enter, then why bother with a business plan? No matter how strong your business plan is, if your market isn't willing to give you a chance, or is unhealthy, then you won't get anywhere.

Another one I see all the time is the location feasibility study for brick and mortars. Many start-up retail businesses lease whatever they can afford without doing the research on the area, traffic patterns, etc. It makes me sad to see ill-placed new businesses pop-up in areas where they are doomed to failure.
Thanks for this helpful post.
