Ever wonder how "real" you should be in your business? If you're afraid that the authentic you would offend customers or make you appear unprofessional, watch this video and learn how to strike the right balance.

OMG this is the VERY BEST answer I've ever heard in response to this question. You've REALLY helped me get a handle on the "your voice" thing. I do have several different sides to my personality. So it makes since for me to pick the side that I most want to represent my business sand brand. Thanks for this amazing video, Marie! :)

Shawn: Do that! :) I am sure that you will like the book and portrait of Ms. Rand by two of her best friends.

Shawn: Yes, it is an interesting topic. I have been "guilty" of saying: "being yourself and authentic in your communication" during courses with students of social media, listeners at talks, and meeting with clients. I have come to the insight that many users of social media, have to start to answer the "why" question and doing introspection.

I have been interested in philosophy for a long time, so me it is natural to have an integrated approach to body and mind, you personal and professional worklife,.

Have you read Amber Mac's book, Power Friending? She came up with the ABC-rule, with the "A" standing for being authentic online.

I haven't, Martin. But perhaps it's time to put it on my list. :)

An off-topic comment on Marie Forleo's remark in the video that her tea tasted "armpit" / smelled like body odor. It hasn't have to taste like this, although green tea could have a bit of a wet veggies / grass / hay over it. Get the tea from a good source and prepare the tea in a proper way, and you have a tasty tea moment! :)

Her video is thoughtful about all the facets you have in your personality. If you want to read a story about a great individual, according to my view, read Facets of Ayn Rand by Charles and Mary Ann Sures.

Hi Martin,

I agree. This is an interesting topic. Thinking about personality and how it relates to business is hugely important and I'm wondering why it isn't talked about more often. Too often you hear the advice to be yourself and be authentic when communicating in your business, but what does this really mean? It unrealistic to suggest that it means just blurting out whatever's on your mind, whether it's appropriate for your brand and customers or not.
