I am right and you are wrong. You are an idiot. Hearing this always makes me think of children disagreeing with each other. This is also played out in client and service provider relationships. If you look on Twitter for example you often hear someone complaining about a client.

Ever since you wrote that line from the song I can't get it out of my head.Sometimes the friction can't be eased same as in our personal relationships so it makes sense to break up and move on. good point about egos as well.

You are right about defensiveness and wanting/needing to be right. I guess these behaviors start early on in life and continue in to adulthood and business.
I usually am quite patient with clients and try to appease. However on four or so occasions when they have just been too belligerent and rude, I've borrowed from the famous song...
"Hit the road Jack and don't you come back..."
Friction will always be part of the equation. Sometimes it can be overcome, but when two big egos clash there will be fireworks!
