Despite all the gloom and doom around today there are many opportunities to ensure success with the marketing of your brand. Yet some small business owners resist change and let the potential opportunities fly by only to be grabbed by a competitor. How do you think about new opportunities.

The enthusiasm you have at the beginning will make you want to think about a lot of details all at once! it can indeed overwhelm you, but it can prove useless if you haven't decided on the concept, the general idea at first.

Great service yes, but $200 boots, $39.95 for FedEx International Shipping and a nice $130 bill to get them through customs = $370 boots :(

Hope they last.

Joking is fine Susan! No harm done. I was contemplating this morning however that in college I bought a car for less than the boots cost...a 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit for $300 from a student who had failed out. The Rabbit lasted me two years; I can only hope the boots last as long :)

I was joking a little Yoni. If you are happy with them and they made the experience a great one then price to you isn't an issue. As you said the costs especially the customs has nothing to do with them.

Susan,

The shipping and Israeli customs were my damage to incur, but point well taken, $370 final tally for the boots is a bit excessive in retrospect :(

No wonder they add in the extras Rivkah.

Hi Susan,

You can add two attitudes that can make a very big difference in marketing: 1. Belief in the value/quality of your products or services and 2. Valuing your customers...

I wish more companies would be like Yoni's boot supplier (Yoni, you should include the name of the company). How much did it really cost them to add in all those extras? Probably not much. And paying someone to make several phone calls an hour probably wasn't such a big expense either. But their potential gain could add up to a lot of future revenue- not only from current customers, but from word of mouth advertising.

Great additions Adam and the boot supplier is a good example. By having those attitudes it can help lift your business above the rest.

It was only today, while out at lunch my husband and I were commenting on the restaurant. How great the food was, brilliant service, aside from that just those little extra touches, that make it memorable.

Its a pitty that so few businesses realize that generosity in what they do means so much to the customer.

Hi Susan,

I just got a beautiful pair of hiking boots that we ordered from the States. They cost an arm and a leg as they are pretty high quality. I also got nailed 65% when they went through Israeli customs which was a bummer.

But...

In addition to the boots which cost $199 (a very fair price in my opinion), the company sent a free cleaning kit, leather polish, extra shoe laces, extra insoles and a shoe-horn...all for free.

Then a funny thing happened: Several days later I got a phone call from the company rep. He asked me how I like the boots, if they fit correctly (always a difficult venture - ordering shoes online without trying them on first). I was also told I will be receiving coupons for discounts on future purchases.

Who am I going to turn to for my next shoe purchase? Who will I send friends and family to who are looking for similar products and a great experience? And which company website did I go to to place a glowing review?

You got it!

Regards,

Yoni

Hi Yoni,

Terrific example of having the right attitude. If you think about it when they had the idea of selling online they obviously saw the potential and put the right steps in place to wow the customers.

Thanks for sharing this.

Susan
