New threats, such as the “Man in the Cloud Attack” (MITC), underscore the difficulties in protecting data stored in the cloud. The problem is that very few companies are defending themselves against this new threat, and most don’t fully understand the implications.

David,

This is yet another example that shows the cloud is not the ultimate solution - it's (misleadingly) advertised to be the ultra-secure solution for data, but, in reality, it's not.

We do need to use a "hybrid" solution: Doing multiple backups on the cloud and on local device. There's no other way, IMO.

Hi Mark,

This is an upsetting news!

I was not aware about the MITC attack! I have accounts in all these places, but now i feel that i need to be more vigilant. Anyways thanks for sharing this and for the solution to escape from this attack. Thanks for providing the links to reach the page to get the protection from the Man in the Cloud,!

Thanks Dave for sharing this very informative piece here.

Best Regards

~ Philip

Good to hear, David. I thought I was the only one who was getting ridiculed for having their contacts and email on their hard drive instead of out in the cloud. I used Nimble for a while, but it kept updating just when I was in a hurry and needed a phone number or other information to share with someone about to hang up.

There are pros and cons to everything. While the cloud is convenient, I sure hope this vulnerability doesn't affect Trello (or the other solutions everyone else uses).

Just what no one needs: yet another security vulnerability. I am fortunate that I have someone else to monitor security issues. I pass posts like this along to them.

The Cloud has advantages, but I prefer my desktop...with plenty of backups.
