Matt Cutts, head of Google’s Webspam team announced today that if you’re guest blogging for backlinks, stop. Bottom-line, don’t accept spammy guest posts. Bottom-line, don’t accept spammy guest posts.

The other bottom line? Don't write them either. :) Agreed - the tailspins have gotta stop! But maybe we can make a new dance out of the frenzied action: the MC Tailspin (a new blogosphere line dance)!

Vernessa, You're welcome back to come back and guest blog for me again anytime. :)

The MC Tailspin - I like that!

I just wrote my own post on it, referring to his original post (the further you get away from the original, the more the message is distorted). I agree with him, but expect the usual backlash of, to your point, article skimmers!

Ugg. I'm so tired of everyone going into a tailspin when Matt Cutts says something. It was the same with press releases, which my company continues to use effectively.

For guest posts, my advice is:

-Don't do it for the link

-Write relevant, useful content

-Only link to relevant sites

Matt's original title for his post “Stick A Fork In It, Guest Blogging Is Done” caused a furor for sure. The problem is that a lot of people skimmed his post and didn't really read it. What he said was that guest blogging strictly for backlinks needs to stop. For most of us, that's a good thing.
