Before I saw the last paragraph on raising taxes as the solution I was already remembering what Howard Ruff of "The Ruff House" TV show said circa 1980 when there were (as always) the usual & unending discussions on the national debt. Good ol' Howie (who was the "buy gold" guy when we had Carter's double-digit inflation & double-digit interest) said: "You don't care about the national debt - all you care about is lower taxes!"
