1.5 million businesses in the USA have closed since the recession started. Where and why are these businesses closing?

Interesting graphic David. And it is true, this is not just a trend in the USA. I know of many, many companies in Canada that have closed their doors in the last few years. It's amazing how using a graphic can sometimes drive home the truth even more than writing an article.

Hey David,

Great infographic. I think it says a lot about the argument that the problems business is having are largely because of lack of credit. If unaffordable loans are one problem and poor consumer spending another how will more loans really improve the situation? Sure it could allow some businesses to hold out, but until consumer spending returns, there is no resolution. And once it does return will we have businesses so in debt from additional borrowing they cannot survive even with more consumer spending.

Neat graph David! Just out of curiosity, is Leonhardt a derviation of Lionheart?

I think they mean the same thing, Alan: "brave". Boy, they sure got that wrong!

Agree Al & David,

There is something about graphs, pie-charts and color graphics which really hits home much more impactfully that black and white words...sorry to all of the black and white words out there...nothing personal; I still love you!

Great post David and THANKS!

Yoni

This is just in the USA. I can tell you that those of us elsewhere who rely on US clients got hit hard, too. And the hole doesn't get filled in overnight.
