There are a lot of different ways to make money either directly or indirectly from a blog, but using a blog to promote services is often an overlooked option. When it comes to the subject of blog monetization things like advertising sales, AdSense, affiliate marketing, and even product sales tend to be more popular topics and approaches than offering services.

One of the reasons this subject is so important is that there are already a lot of people out there offering services that could benefit greatly by making effective use of a blog as a marketing tool. Web and graphic designers, photographers, and consultants are just a few examples of the types of services providers that can experience a significant growth in business with the right approach to blogging.

Marc Andre: Good to hear that! :) How long time have you been blogging? Do you have any examples of blogs that you like in the regard of promoting in a good way?

I've been blogging about 7 years. My first blog was used to promote services, and it worked very well, but I can't give any details on it because I sold it last year and I have a confidentiality agreement in the contract that prevents me from sharing anything. There aren't really any specific examples that come to mind, this article was written based on my own experience with that blog. I know there are a lot of SEOs and consultants that use their blogs to attract traffic, but I don't really know much about their businesses and how much of their income comes from services (a few examples would be https://yoast.com/, http://pointblankseo.com, and http://www.branded3.com)

Thanks for sharing different ways of promoting your services. Be cautious not to focus to much on promoting, write instead for yourself and your readers. It will take time to develop your natural voice. I have been blogging since 2002 and you get to know fellow bloggers, like and trust them, and then doing business. This is called referral marketing. There are no shortcuts. Or do you have some other opinion?
