Nicole: Thanks for the book tip. I will check it out! I like he title, I am. That's a part of my company name and blog: EGO (I am in Latin). I have listened to Edwin Locke's cassette course back in the day and read several of his books on organizational leadership.

Nicole: Thanks for the input! Do you know about organization that have created a step-by-step content marketing strategy lately? Talking about goals, have you studied the works by goal-setting pioneer, Dr. Edwin A. Locke?

I haven't read Locke's work, but I'm plugging along on a book called "I AM" by Howard Falco. It's definitely heavy reading, but it's very interesting -- not just for goal-setting, but for every twist and turn of life!

Nicole: I will bookmark your post and use it as material when I am talking to potential new clients. My questions is when do you answer the "why" question? Why are you in business and why do you want to be active on the social web?

Thanks! Glad you found it helpful! :)

As far as asking "why?" goes, I think that falls under #1. You need to have a clear picture of what you're trying to accomplish -- both with a content strategy and your overall business. It may sound like overkill to sit there and ponder your goals, but explaining them to yourself helps you to keep sight of them. When you're working on the web -- with all of the "gurus", advice (good and bad!), and shiny products that make big promises -- it's easy to get pulled off the road, so to speak.
