Product reviews can definitely be a great way to draw in some more visitors. On the other hand by including affiliate links, those can be pretty much the best monetization model for blogs.

There are also plenty of benefits that come from blogging beyond just ads and affiliate links. These are earnings made directly off of traffic, but don't forget, you can build or grow another kind of business with your blog, maybe a service or product you can offer. You can network and and partner with others you might not have found without your blog. You can identify a niche and a means to build a business for that niche all from blogging. Don't make it all about click through earnings. It's only one possible benefit of blogging.
