Google made some important changes to Place Pages last week, including a more focused approach to showing what your customers think in reviews. Every business loves to see happy customers write good reviews, unsolicited. But you’re likely to get far better results if you go a step further and ASK your customers for a review. Depending on your type of business and customer touchpoints, there are lots of ways to ask. Here are 8 approaches we’ve seen work for some of our clients.

Hi Duncan,

I agree. The word on the street is that Google did it because of anti-trust pressures from sites like Yelp and CitySearch. But I think it makes for a cleaner strategy and higher value from Google.

Thanks for the comment.

Hi Cindy.

I'm glad they changed it. While I seldom look up a local business, when I do, all I get are umpteen Crummy "directory" results - nameless/faceless review sites. The business itself isn't even listed online. At first, I wondered why the businesses didn't claim their spot - then I realized why: no one wants to be associated w/those sites. Anyone who believes reviews on such sites gets what they deserve - garbage.
