Thanks for the comments.

Shawn, I think you mention one of the biggest dilemas that professional online marketing consultants face. Whether it is web design, SEO, development, or Social Media Marketing, clients hire you and then expect you to go and do your job. They want their consultant to design their site or get them to number 1 in Google or do the social media thing and they don't understand their role in making it happen.

I can see why they think like that, it is totally understandable. It makes educating the client vital because without them understanding the role they have in making their business marketable they can't get the best results from any professional. I had never really thought of this applying in Social Media as well.

Hi Alastair,

Not all that different from the point of view of a blogger or social marketing professional. Of course, from this point of view you will be creating the content, but inevitably there will be a need for photos from the client, perhaps crucial information about products and services etc. And since these activities require frequent updating, having clients get back in a timely manner is imperative. This is often difficult since the reason you were hired in the first place is that they are too busy creating the best product or service available to answer constant queries or to do their blogging, social media media and PR themselves.
