Inbox builds upon Gmail's tabs, which introduced new buckets for Social updates and Promotions. The app features Bundles, which will group together similar kinds of messages, and Highlights, which puts important emails front and center.

When Google came out with the new tabs update, everyone went crazy thinking that their email open rates would decrease. And although they did at first they eventually balanced out. Just goes to show that if you want to build a responsive list you have to lead with valuable info they want to hear about.
