I would say that the simple answer is research. You shouldn't just take your current personas for granted. They should be updated every so often to make sure they're as accurate as possible.
If during research you come across information that contradicts existing traits, it's probably worth looking into a bit more and perhaps making a change.
The fresher your persona description, the more reliable it is. The truth is, people change.
