Braden,

Thanks for leaving the comment on Juan's YouTube page. It would be a gas if he comes to Bizsugar to comment.

I'm glad the post generated some interest as it is a subject that needs to be spoken about and the video told a nice, inspiring story.

Heidi, I'll post maybe once a week...other peoples' material of course.

Disability is often wrongly equated with a lack of capabilities. Great to see employers stepping up and hopefully setting some new standards.

Thanks for sharing Yoni.

Jackie,

It is great. There is also legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act which celebrated its 20th birthday this year. Although a far-ranging and broad step in the right direction, it has too many loopholes. The key is making reasonable accomodations for disabled employees, usually quite easy and inexpensive, but companies can usually bypass this with a lot of determination. Juan's a cool guy. I hope his employment is going well.

Great video Yoni. I have known a number of people with physical disabilities and the one common thread is that they wish others would not treat them as if they were stupid or think they have to speak slowly and loudly to have a conversation.

Susan,

So many people like Juan just need a foot in the door to prove how able they are. Speaking slowly or loud is also a biggie. Lower expectations on the part of employees is another. A prime example of a person with exceptional, though hidden abilites is Stephen hawking. Most employers who didn't know him would probablu be reluctant, but by getting to know him you find out he is a brilliant, brilliant person.

When I was at Aetna we hired a deaf guy. He was very good at what he did. The whole department even learned sign language to be able to communicate with him.
