Did Jimi Hendrix sing "Kiss the sky" or "Kiss this guy?" Did Manfred Mann really sing "Wrapped up like a douche?"

In Business, it's no different. Message is ESSENTIAL! Say what you mean and mean what you say!

It's funny, Manfred Man didn't even write that song! The Boss did. How's that for clarity!

Very clear Prcheney. The Boss might have written it, but Manfred is still responsible for singing "Douche." Thanks for reading and for the clarification.

Hi Yoni,

Clarity is important and today especially for those of us who do business with people from many countries your post is a good reminder. It may take a little time but worth the effort to understand the language your customers use.

Cheers,

Susan

Susan,

Especially important now that we are all part of the global Business "Empire."

It does take some time and effort, but it's necessary when one little mis-step can sink a deal. Enjoy your break and "merry Christmas!"

Hi Yoni,

It's a good reminder that what you *think* you're saying isn't what your customer is hearing. It's always good to have one-to-one conversations to clarify your message. Sarah

Sarah,

You are correct that so often there can be that chasm between what we say and what "they" hear. Clarification is a biggie.

Very Good, Yoni!

Care to take a stab at "Louie Louie"? No One knows half the words there. Are they even words, or just "utterances"?

Duncan,

Thanks. Actually, "Louie Louie" is the most re-recorded song in history with over 1,500 published versions. Second is "Yesterday" by the Beatles. Thanks for stopping by!

Yonatan,

As English is not my first language -it is third behind Arabic and Farsi- I had to do some problem solving to find the American=English meaning of douche. Part of which is slang.

You are very right about conveying the message correcly otherwise you will convey the wrong mesaage.

Nice meaningful article.

Hamed,

Thanks for your compliment. Things like the word in question can be found in an online slang dictionary. We must be clear.

Well, you've certainly covered off a lot of good territory with various celebrity entertainers by now. Do you take requests? My two favourite ladies of song, Paulina Rubio and Linda Ronstadt.

David,

They provide so much to write about. Linda Ronstadt? A request or challenge? I'd have to go with her duo (though I can't recall who it's with) "Don't know much, but I know I love you!" It would be a ballad to my dear clients and readers.

Great message Yonatan! I know both songs in passing and took a second listen. They are both ambiguous in their wording. It is proof positive that meanings can become confused and how important it is to communicate clearly. Great blogging on JS! Keep up the great work!

Ofira,

Ambiguity and not being clear can kill a business message. Thanks for your feedback and kind words.

Yoni, I've never heard the song but listened to the clip. By golly I think he's saying DOUCHE!

Shosh,

It sounds that way, but a look at the lyrics says otherwise. Just a footnote so to speak on the importance of clarity.
