I'm Heidi. A Biz Sugar Groupie and VOTER!

I'm back for the final part of my trilogy: an outsiders view on succeeding on Biz Sugar.

Today it's about comments. Respond to them and build good will. Get loyal readers and VOTES! Ignore them or don't bother to answer and don't be surprised if the opposite happens!

Even before reading, I glanced at the comments, and just have this to say before heading off to read...

BizSugar IS technically a social networking website. Isn't the whole idea of social networking building and nurturing connections and relationships? :) Anywho, nice title Heidi, it got my attention, and I am now off to look. I'll be back to comment on what the article is about through an edit of this comment :)

*** Addendum***

Not much more I can add Heidi, although that website is a bit long in length since your last post :) Wish there was something a bit newer here to see your present interests, but as you're probably busy with 2 businesses, I can see why maybe you don't submit so much.

Yes, we are busy, we write, we serve people, we run around through different social media trying to build relationships, connect, network, and a host of other things. Sometimes it's daunting, other times it's filled with great experiences and incredible connections with people, and a whole myriad of other things in between.

Yes, a notification would be nice here to let us know. It gets kinda hard tracking multiple submissions for comments here :)

Nice post, good points, and I hope you're realizing great success with both businesses. Thanks for your kind words on one of my posts recently as well :) I'll forgive you if you don't reply to this one since it seems your submissions have slowed down, and I wouldn't expect you to track the ones you did :)

Hi Heidi, I comment all the time and try to stay in the conversation, but your post motivated me to pay better attention! I wish Disqus was hooked up in here so we could get an email saying -- "Someone commented on your comment..."

TJ, Thanks so much for your kind comment and apologies for my delayed response. Maybe a comment indicator would be a nice addition the the site.

Holy moly! A group thanks and response as I literally have to catch an airport shuttle in 25 minutes! Thanks Yoni, Susan, Pat, Barney, Shawn, David and Profit!

Thanks for the response and wonderful feedback. Pat and Barney, readers excuse writers who don't respond once in a while. We're busy and human. But there are some around to whom I have left numerous, numerous messages, I see others leaving messages for the same people. No acknolegment whatsoever came. It's interesting because now I see that nobody leaves comments for them anymore and there votes have dried up!

Thanks for contacting me and all the best to each and everyone of you!

Well done on this 3rd post Heidi.Your posts have insights that we can easily apply.

I also agree with Pat and Barney about notification. This also applies if you leave a comment. Sometimes I have and then it can take time to find the other person's post and read other coments. This is especially true regarding recently submitted if the post doesn't make to Hot Topics. It can be 4 or 5 pages away.

Hi Heidi. A great post for those who need some guidance getting the most from their Bizsugar experience. The point that Pat makes on the notifications is well made. It would be great to get a notification. Sometimes I forget to go back and check - and feel bad as a consequence! Thanks for your trilogy

I think a major reason many people fail to respond to comments on BizSugar is that they don't know when their article receives a comment. I personally try to respond to any comments I receive, but BizSugar is the only place where I post a link to my blog that I don't receive a notification of comments. Whenever I get a comment on my log or in a LinkedIn group where I've posted a discussion I get an email letting me know, and then I respond as soon as I can. I do try to check out my comments on BizSugar, but sometimes the day gets away from me.

Really interesting analysis. It's a trend I don't think we've really looked at among members of the BizSugar team but pretty fascinating from the standpoint of both participation and online marketing.

David, You are a true gentleman. Somehow i don't think you need any lessons on dealing with people! You've proven you already have it all!

Heidi,

Congratulations on your excellent series of articles on Biz Sugar!

Sometimes it takes the perspective of an outsider to see things that might not be apparent to an insider! Your advice is on the mark!

Comments are indeed all of the things which you spoke of. You are also 100% right about Biz Sugar being a community and about taking time to answer our readers.

You have an excellent business mind and now that your trilogy is complete, I hope that you will find other great subjects to write about!

Regards,

Yoni
