p.s. In the movie "Dr. Strangelove, or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb" (1964 B+W, one of the funniest movies ever made) - Slim Pickens, as B-52 pilot Maj. Kong managed to skirt the nuclear/nucular issue completely, by ingeniously saying "nucler" - 2 syllables. My hat goes off to him!

Also a good line. Many good things about the movie including a very young James Earl Jones, pre-"This is CNN."

I'll be disappearing for about a week, so keep up the energy on the site; in other words, keep doin' what you're doin'!

How about George C. Scott? "I'm not sayin' we won't get our hair mussed - 10, 20 Million, tops" (U.S. casualties from WWIII).

Yooz is splittin' hairz...when I was a kid every teech I had said "ain't" ain't a woid - I wish I could go back in time an' show 'em a modern dikshonary.

Scott, I do think we need to make allowances for cultural differences - saying ax is not a big deal if it's spelled ask on paper. If everyone went around talking in the uniform manner you suggest, the world would be a colorless wasteland - a place I'd hate to be.

Duncan,

Reminds me of the old Andrew "Dice" Clay sketch:

"So the teacher asks me 'Hey Andrew, what's the difference between 12 and 4'? So I answer, 'That's what I say teach, what's the f&%king difference'!"
