Meredith - great overview and detail. I run a small job placement company. We do not charge applicants for job searches. We do charge for resume development if a full rewrite is needed, yet for the most part applicants can be given good recommendations, make the changes on their own, and not be charged. Our company is in business to get people jobs and to satisfy employer job needs. Correct that there are some disingenuous, unscrupulous folks out there. Let the buyer beware applies. Interview your job search services before you buy anything. Ask for references. We do a lot more, but that would warrant a full post:). Thanks for posting on BizSugar.com
