Leadership isn't purely the domain of the corporate head of a bulging department.

You lead everyday. How effectively you do it though...well thats another matter.

Jackie,

Very nice job! And great points. I think great leaders are ones who work their way up in an organization. I worked for a company once where there was a vacancy at the top. There were many qualified people within the organization who had paid their dues and learned their craft. Instead, they brought a leader in from the outside, bypassing those who were deserving.

The leader turned out to be clueless and the choice to bring in an outsider sowed resentment within the company.

I think your definition of leadership is accurate, Jackie, but why are politicians the exact opposite of true leaders - they listen only to hand-picked yes-men, and manage to flip-flop depending on which way the wind blows. They promise everyone everything, saying what they know they want to hear, and deliver next to nothing (it's basically a coinkydink when they do deliver). How can it be?

Trouble with politicians Duncan, they are too busy trying to play both sides of coin, and they shift their hand depending on which way the wind blows.

How can they expect to be seen as leaders when they really they only stand for something when it suits their current agenda.

It seems no matter where you are in the world, people feel the same about pollies...It never ceases to amaze me how unqualified these people are to be in governance. But...that's a whole other can of worms.

Thanks for your comments Duncan, appreciate your input.
