Sounds like some very interesting research. I was struck especially by this:

Perhaps there's a bit of this in all of us?

I agree! We talk on our cell phones or ponder issues in our heads while walking and potentially miss opportunities to engage. So if we want more good luck we have to be more aware. In yoga speak I think that's called being more "present".
The occasional "zoning out" does not bad luck make, but realizing we do this and doing something about it presents an opportunity to improve our luck!
