This is the time of the year where most people have moments of nostalgia; we look back on the past with Rose Tinted glasses and reminisce about the good old days, phrases such as ‘no school like the old school’ and ‘they were the good old days’ float around. But what about the direction business and careers have made, are we better off today than in the halogen days of old? Or should we take a moment to look back in order to learn from what was really good then and try to re-invent it in today’s modern workplace.

A mini holiday sounds great @MrsZeus, you'll have to let me know if you go in the end :)

This is great post with some timely reminders for us all! Thanks for putting it together, Catherine. My new year's resolution is definitely to better manage my time, namely my 'me time'! Also, I intend to take up some new hobbies/skills in the new year. I am great believer that doing social fun activities can have a hugely beneficial impact on one's working life. Happy Xmas and best wishes for 2012. Thanks for all insights, support and help throughout the year - Niall

Happy Holidays to you too Niall, sounds like a good new year's resolution in the making there, amazing how quickly time can be consumed and often with not a lot of 'Me Time' in the mix...

I agree, Niall. Great article!

I, too, would like to take up some new hobbies (still haven't decided which ones). I would also like to take a mini vacation soon, but that might not sit well with my small business :)
