Depending on which client is referring me, I may be a management coach, leadership coach, executive coach, or franchise coach. Not that I have a concern. What works for my client is ok with me. I thought however about the issue of self-identification and frame of reference when they use their preferred terms.
Some clients use the term to seem to avoid responsibility, as in: “Before I make a decision on this I want to talk with my leadership coach,” or “I think my management coach would want me to analyze this situation more before I decide, ” and “I bet my executive coach will be happy to see I made this decision – who cares about the cost and impact on people!”
