I think the truth is there's a balance to be set. Perhaps what those opposing automation are really responding to is the idea that you can automate your social media maybe a week in advance and then not bother to even check in with your channel to respond to possible daily engagement. This approach would clearly be a mistake and would obviously send the message that your social channels are simply automated streams of content with no one "real" behind them for your audience to engage. On the other hand, automating some content to give you time and flexibility to respond to your audience appropriately will clearly improve your social media presence. This kind of automation improves your productivity and, by extension, the quality of your social media engagement.
