Rich Meyer is not nearly as against the idea of using social media for business marketing as the title of his post "Social media marketing is an oxymoron" might imply. In fact, interactive marketing is Rich's business. What he rightly warns against, however, are social media evangelists who promote the importance of using social media without any clear explanation of how it will help your business or small business owners who assume they need social media because it's the latest trend but have no plan for how to implement it or how it will improve their bottom line. On the other hand, in his short list of legitimate uses for social media, I'm surprised Rich didn't mention brand building considering the mega brands he's worked with in his career. How concrete are your plans about how and why to use social media?

I thought the whole thing about Social Media was that the blogger was SUPPOSED to add their input - that they were not just company shills duplicating the standard advertising the company already spews out in magazine & TV ads. In some cases, the blogger is viewed as much more trust-worthy than the company, that's why the company uses Social Media.
