Allot of really fascinating ideas in this interview with Biz Stone of Twitter about an approach to business, though in this case a very well-funded business that can't really be described as small even if the idea started out that way. Two of the most interesting ideas Stone brings up are, first, that he and his team members take the time to give attention in equal parts to Twitter as product, as technology and as culture and, second, that they have concentrated first and foremost on the value of their service. The first point means that, at least to some extent, they have resisted any temptation to let any one part of their business dictate another. The technology and how the team interacts are seen as distinctly different things. The second point means that the company has concentrated the majority of its energies on making the Twitter experience valuable instead of just chasing the fast buck. Small businesses often don't have this luxury but should think constantly, the way a well-funded startup thinks, about what they want their company to be and how to get it there.
