When Google+ launched last week, a swarm of both users and businesses jumped at the opportunity to join this initially exclusive network. According to a blog post by Google’s Product Manager, Christian Oestlien, the company was positively overwhelmed by the amount of participation they received, particularly from businesses. Unfortunately, after watching early brand/user interactions, Google+ employees immediately recognized the network’s shortcomings. That said, to provide businesses with the experience they deserve, Google is discouraging companies from using regular profiles to connect with users until a suitable solution is created. Initial testing is scheduled to begin in two weeks!

I think sometimes the idea of questioning whether one social platform will outdo another may be a mistake. Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter coexist along with more niche networking sites like...well, like BizSugar! The question will be whether Google+ has significantly differentiated features to develop a following and whether that user base will be sufficient to warrant Google's continuation of the network long term.

Not the first post I've seen on this subject, including here on BizSugar, but it will be interesting to learn how these pages will end up being used or whether they will pose a serious threat to Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter in business networking.

I’m very interested to see the outcome too. With all the media coverage that Google+ has been receiving, I think this is the best attempt that the search giant has had with building a social network, so who knows where it can go. It definitely has a better chance than Google Wave or Buzz.
