Stakeholder engagement is considered by 82 per cent of senior communicators across Europe to be important to their organisation’s success, according to research by Brunswick Insight – and 90% expect the scope and scale of stakeholder engagement activities to increase dramatically over the next five years.

Thanks for great comments and questions, @Heather totally agree, stakeholders make up all of those different audiences, so it's so important to understand all of the different audiences and more so understand where those audiences "hang out" online.

Social media may not be great for all of them, however once you start defining it's quite easy to know the best use of social media for each audience,

Jonny - Excellent point. Most people don't think about using social media for stakeholder management, but it can be really powerful to engage all the stakeholders. I also like your comment about social media being a two way communication medium. It is very important to have a meaningful dialog.

Hi Jonny,

Interesting post but it raises the question of exactly what we mean by stakeholders. Are these customers, partners, employees, departments or something else? The specific type of audience you're trying to engage is important. There are probably very few techniques that will work equally well for everyone.
