Great point, Kenji. Unless your goal is to send traffic to a YouTube channel or some other off-site post where videos are hosted, hosting videos can be a great strategy to keep traffic on your site instead.

Hi Heather, in my case, I do want to build a following on YouTube and eventually become a YouTube partner. However in this post, I really wanted to address more than just video. I think podcasting is huge also. Thanks for the comment Heather.

Great tips here. If you're creating your own video content however, you may want to try using a self-hosting service so that youtube doesn't outrank you for your own great content. One of the more popular services for this is Wistia. If you create a lot of videos it's worth checking out.

Kenji - do you know how the rates for Wistia compare to Libsyn? I know that Libsyn is an affordable option for hosting podcast and video files as well. The problem is that as the file sizes grow, so do the rates. YouTube combines the video hosting with the social aspect that you don't get with other video hosts. I actually get a lot of traffic coming to my blog from YouTube. That's why it's so important to include a call to action for your brand in each video. I'd love to discuss this with you in more detail!
