Uttoran Sen: Yes, I know I can unfollow some and then start following some new tweeps, but it take plenty of time and energy. I have tested several apps and most of them are pretty cumbersome to work with. You don't sit and watch updates by "5000" users all the time. Personally, I think the 2000 user follow limit is arbitrarily, but it is of course up to Twitter to decide.

Uttoran Sen: I am sorry that some bad apples / black hat marketers have broken the trust of Twitter. I want to follow and communicate with nice and professional tweeps. Why should I be stopped after following 2000 users?

Yes, but you can unfollow some, and follow back some more ... as long as you have as many people following you back, you can keep following more people ...

think about it, if you are following 5,000 people, can you really keep up with that many updates?

Uttoran: I understand what you are saying regarding the Twitter follow limit rule, but I don't agree with it! ;) It is up to Twitter to pick a certain amount of users as a limit rule, but I feel it is a hassle for my own sake.

Hey lyceum,

Yes, I can understand, any limitation is not good for the end user. This limit was not implemented when twitter was new ... so what most marketer did was, they used to follow as many people as they can, and then unfollow everyone.

the result was that they got an insanely huge audience. it is great from the marketers point of view, but will anyone buy twitter ads if building and reaching an audience was this easy?

I wouldn't have the time or energy to follow 1000 people a day. However, I've started following handfuls everyday, which is a start, and is much better than what I used to do.

Yes, the 3rd tip is the most important one. It is a limitation of twitter that restricts the number of follows and unfollows everyday ...

One has to work within this limitation and still grow their following everyday,

Uttoran Sen: What's your plan to reach your first 10000 followers? Guest Crew account has 501 followers at this moment. When did you start with Twitter? I have 4335 followers on and I will follow 4769.

we are currently not working on the @guestcrew handle and have left it to grow organically. For GuestCrew, we are working on our facebook page currently, do check out /guestcrew on facebook for more details,

thank you for the followup comment,

This limitation is good - it stops spammers from following everyone in a single day ... as marketers it seems like a limitation but for the greater good, this is a good feature to have.

So basically after you follow the initial 2000 users, you just need to unfollow some that do not follow back and follow others and keep the processing running.
