While your content may be sound and useful, you may be boring your audience to tears. If you're failing to see click throughs on your links then maybe you should take a look at exactly what you're sharing.

Nice post Jackie

Banter is good and personality is good and there is no doubt that a little bit of humour is good. Boring is bad.

So I think I agree with the general thrust of your post.

Interestingly, if people start sharing posts about their cats or “funny stuff” I will likely loose all interest in them. I prefer to follow single issue accounts. I don’t care about the daily challenges of those I follow. I absolutely don’t want to know about their politics. And yet, like you I think that the people I follow should be themselves.

It’s a difficult circle to square and I’m for sure no social networking expert. It’s worth thinking about though because I have read various research stating that most people prefer to follow single issue accounts. (can’t find it right now unfortunately)

P.S. Great Title. Great titles and some relationship building will go a long way.

Hi Alastair,

I find it interesting that you get turned off by more…shall we call it “pedestrian stuff”.

While I agree that some stuff that gets shared just adds to the noise. I think that sharing selected aspects of what makes you…you, add to my personal interest. Particularly so, if you’re looking to develop a relationship with someone.

Having said that, Like most people I follow others based on their area of expertise, so I do expect that their sharing mostly consists of their topic.

I wouldn’t like it if the ratio suddenly shifted to 90% fluff and 10% what you followed them for. There has to be balance.

Hey, I don’t think any body can be an expert in this constantly changing environment.

It’s nice to see you around here again, and I appreciate you weighing in with your opinions.

PS. If you come accross that article in the future, can you forward me the link. I’d be interested to read.

Just keep up what you're doing - there's a definite spark of life in your work that's sorely missing so much of the time.

Business can be a bit of a dull topic, so if I can inject a little spark here and there, I'm doing my job. Who knows that spark might light a fire for someone and that would be fantabulous.
