I wonder if I should create a Facebook fan page or a group, or both, for my future personal tea brand and forthcoming first book on tea (for the backers of the crowdfunding campaign for the illustrations of the book)?

I would probably focus on building and gaining followers for your Facebook business page first. A group page could be a nice offering down the road to offer followers (or purchasers as an incentive) to learn more about you and the brand etc.
