Bit.ly is a great little tool for shortening long webiste addresses. The major benefit from using Bit.ly is the analytics package which shows you where your traffic is coming from as it relates to companies and also from what website sources.

Chris: What kind of software do you use for doing this video?

I use Bit.ly a lot, but am I thinking what could happen with the service in the future. Do you know that .ly is located in Libya...? Do you know if Twitter has rolled out its own URL shorterner yet?

I had no idea that it was located in Libya. I don't know if Twitter has yet, but it's only a matter of time. Hopefully if something goes sideways with Bit.ly then something else will take it's place.

I used CamStudio (http://camstudio.org/) on the PC. I also use a Mac and I use I Show U (http://store.shinywhitebox.com/ishowuhd/main.html). Cam Studio is free and I show u costs about $20. I ran into problems with CamStudio so if you decide to use it and can't get the sound to work, ping me at [email protected] and I'll help you out.

Great, helpful post and video, Chris. Bit.ly is such a helpful tool going way beyond simply shortening URL's and it is getting particularly helpful in measuring your content's viral impact since Bit.ly is also the most common link used on sites like Twitter.

It's funny, I used bitly just to shorten URL's and got hooked on the analytics.

Chris,

I'm really enjoying your video tutorials. It's one thing to explain something, it's another altogether to watch how it's done. I'm not a computer dummy, I'm a computer IDIOT, so your hands-on approach is helping me a lot. Thanks!

Thanks Yoni,

Always a pleasure hearing from you. I wouldn't consider myself computer literate. In fact, you should have seen the hours it took me to figure out how to capture videos off my computer. Actually come to think of it, I'll put a post up in the future on how to do this. Thanks for the idea.

Regards,

Chris
