Despite the myriad of social media sites, history proves that more is not always better. Here are my top three takeaways as you consider the best channels for your business.

Hi Rachel,

Good to read the post about the 3 major takeaways in social media.

Yes, I fully agree with you on this. Though in these 20 years many appeared and disappeared few are still out there with a lot of activities.

The infographic too speaks a lot in this regard. Yes, the giants move on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.

Thanks a lot for the share.

Best Regards.

Martin, you are right! Hard not to use these today on a daily basis! It will be interesting to see if any new ones come in to compete. There will need lots of dollars to do so!

Lisa: Companies will come and go. I bet that Amazon and Apple will stay for a long time. Microsoft will continue to be around, if they purchase new smart companies, like LinkedIn and Skype. Google is very powerful, but I wonder about its core service, search, in the long perspective. Facebook will see copycats in the years to come, but it is so ingrained into our daily lives, with e.g., Instagram and Messenger, so it could stay at the top.

That world domination scares me Rachel, but they do seem to get a lot right in doing it!

'Right,' is in the eye of the beholder. They have a lot of supporters, but have made a lot of enemies, as well. Thanks for your input, Lisa!

Lisa: If it will be a free marketplace, new social media alternatives will have the chance to enter the field and compete with Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The bigger picture is that the whole net is "divided" by Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft. It is hard to not use these services by these companies on a daily basis.
