Successful companies don't have ESP and they cannot see into the future. What makes them successful is that they listen and respond to what consumers want and need. That's an extremely important part of product development and marketing. Not to mention that it's also an ongoing process.

As a business owner, I have a hard time allocating payroll to just to have someone browse facebook and youtube looking for mentions of my product or service. I think real primary market research is more valuable and trustworthy.

I couldn't agree more. It's so important to listen to the feedback of your customers because ultimately, let's face it, they are your boss. That goes for social networks as well, I feel. I've actually been on other websites that will claim they encourage their community to offer opinions, but not really care.
